The New York Homeless

A homeless man
stands by the entrance
of the church, selling flowers
a black street man
sits on a sidewalk
with his two cats
Blacky and Sylvester
another street person sits
on a hydrant
talking to my husband
a character out of fiction
loving to talk

a man stands near bank
seeking attention
someone to listen
another sits
in a bus shelter
with his possessions
still another collects
soda cans in large plastic bags
earning some money
