The Next Step

If tragedy
Gave wings to fly
Where to next?
Onto better things?
My ink bleeds more graciously
Than ever imagined
I’d sat paralyzed
Page after page, ripped
I’d sat paralyzed
And gave up hope
With shameful behavior
That was normal
Even the Angels
Had setbacks
I prayed
Oh Lord
As Beautiful as that bird chirps
Let me write this poem
I’m sorry I didn’t write
Much sooner than today
The wings of tragedy flapped
On a postcard;
I’d flown away
To a more positive place
In God’s arms,
I carried on
All the way to the end
I’d earn
The wings from my beasts of burdens
Before I had to see Heaven
