The Night Calls

The night calls as I step out into it,
The heat still lingers after the suns gone down,
Eyes adjusting to the darkness only dim street laps vaguely light the way,
I walk and wonder trying to get my head around everything,
The night is the one thing I don’t have to fear; it’s calm and welcoming;
A friend that doesn’t leave marks on me; I smile and walk enjoying my time,
The one time I have without having to smile or pretend that I’m not in pain.
