The North Star

I stumble in the darkness.
My travels are near and far.
I rely on God's beacon,
A savior called a star.
I walk towards a brighter future
And leave my past behind.
I drink from a gourd
With freedom's finest wine.
Pin pricks fill the blackness.
Pictures formed to bring
African's independence
And songs that they must sing.
Strangers hide my presence
And risk their very lives,
So I can own myself
And watch my family thrive.
Oh, my star in the cosmos,
Guide my every turn,
So I can get to heaven
To be free to live and learn.
