The Oak Tree

Through time you have stood
Weathered away by the past
Hopeful for the future
Letting your leaves change through season
Allowing your arms to bare the burden of the winter
And enjoy the vibrant hues of the summer
The gnarled bark is your battle scar
While the leaves falling are your tears
No one knows the trouble you have been through
The hardships you have felt
The biting cold you feel
With no blanket of leaves to warm you
Yet you look to the future
Looking at the promise it brings
Knowing every day is a new beginning, a new start
A new dream
