The One Within

Mirror, Mirror where are you now
In the depths of my heart
In the dark of my mind
In the past where you live
In the long left behind

Passion under the surface
Fighting to rise
Gasping for air
We push it down
and it swallows us whole

Hand in hand
Foot in mouth
The one within
Claws its way out

Promises made
And promises kept
Dreams fulfilled
Bound together
Yet falling apart

We fit together, you and I
In love’s embrace
And in hate’s disgrace
We are bound by
Something greater than us both

Hand in hand
Foot in mouth
The one within
Claws its way out

The truth within lies
Unspoiled, unbroken
Threatening to come out
While the parts we play
Become truer than life

There’s no room for foolishness
No room for fear
The paths that we choose
Are the paths we embrace
No matter the shape

Hand in hand
Foot in mouth
The one within
Claws its way out

Mirror, Mirror where are you now
I hear your foot fall
I feel your withdraw
As a tug from within
You are gone
