The Other Way

A troubled soul,
He kept it all to himself.
I gave it my all, my life's work,
Yet nothing would help.

That monster still lurked
'Round every corner,
Every bend;
He could not escape
Its unholy intent.

So he gave in at last,
Took it all away with him,
His God-awful past,
Despite the love that was given him.

I'm still learning how
To deal with that day,
When God chose to look
The other way.
