The Painting

Together we fought, together we won
A spot in this damaged world
That demands so much.
The strength we had
Has vanished.

We ruled the world, we were the ones:
The dreamers of happiness.
For the life we had lived
Was the life of a dream:
A blessing.

It was a time well lived, a time of elation:
The sun shined,
The colors glistened.
And yet the fate of sorrow has engulfed
The future.

But soon it rained, soon came the storm.
Our surroundings melted
And dripped like wet paint.
Our lives began
To stop.

Now we are frozen, now we just lie
Like a pair in a painting
Looking out beyond
And forever can we stand
No more.
