“The Pandemic Ox”

"The Pandemic Ox"
by Glynn Holmberg

A worldwide pandemic has taken hold.
Many are locked in and down I am told.
Many have set sail off to distant shores.
The ones who jump ship will end up with Jaws.
The ones who make it to a distant beach,

Will have to humble themselves and beseech.
Many will find themselves on the wagon.
The ones who fall off will have to drag on.
Some will resent being on shaky ground.
Some will want to stop and then turn around.
They all want to find love, peace, happiness.
They left behind hatred, war, bitterness.
Meanwhile, the work ox keeps plodding on.
He dodges bullshit from a cousin gone.
If he makes it to the winner's circle,
Just and lasting peace is the miracle.
