The Peels

I’ve seen souls,
Oh how I’ve seen souls.
I’ve seen pain,
I’ve seen anguish.
I’ve witnessed broken hearts,
Broken timelines,
Broken families.
I’ve seen the better man lose,
I’ve seen the better man fall.
I’ve tasted defeat,
Salted, with a hint of love.
I’ve listened to cries,
I’ve listened to hurt.
I’ve watched as all I know comes crashing,
All the things I’ve held dear,
All the things I’ve been promised,
All the things I’ve promised,
I’ve watched them all crash down.

I’ve seen love,
Oh how I’ve seen love.
I am the embodiment of your scars,
I resemble all you’ve hated,
But Jesus how I’ve seen love.
I am a witness:
Murder, deceit,
Forgiveness, acceptance,
The world comes crashing,
I stood witness,
Yet here I stand,
Jesus how I’ve seen love.
