The Power of Love--Sonnet

Love can never be earned, it is a gift.
No one can talk you into it you must
Feel like you're on a never-ending lift
That is carried by doves and lots of trust.
You cannot just go to someone and say,
"I love you," without any feelings toward
That person because it is the weird way
Of the future of our slow dying word,
And love is the passion that will revive
Our few words and make it last forever.
With our word we will let humans survive.
With our word of love our race will never
Die without a vigorous mirthful fight
Because our love is our forever light.

This Poems Story

I am fourteen years old and I am from Odenton, Maryland. I am a freshman at Arundel High School. I love to play basketball and I run track at my school. But most of all, I love to write poetry. This poem came to me by my English teacher suggesting that I enter a poetry contest. I thought my other poems weren't good enough. I sat in class and wrote this poem. The meaning of the poem is that with one word of love we can accomplish anything. Thank you for reading my poem and I hope you enjoy it.
