The Problem With Being A Different Color

not quite black
not quite white
not quite yellow
somewhere in between
expectations of me
my future
in all different ways
heart strings being pulled
In a million different directions
what is the meaning of religion
when it is abused
when people preach their own opinions, when
people have given up, when the thought feels
like a burden heavy on your shoulders
what is the meaning of my ideal future for others
when I want my own
when I can feel something
a love, a spark for a melody
a feeling so irreplaceable
I just don't want to be shot down
for following my heart
This is the problem with
being a different color
