The Release

A damp curl fringes the startled brow.
At each dirty cheek gleams a wet spot,
and the lad kneels.
The hound dog lies very still, pink tongue swiping at his jowls.
The breathing finally stops.
The small hand unclenches at last,
and boy and hound dog serve no one.
