The Relic

On a pasture hill he watches
steel giants rolling by.
They travel ancient paths
first trodden by his kind.

He leaves crescent imprints
like his ancestral kin
in the soft emerald earth
where they carried warring men.

He stands in misty shadows
a sigh in history
and waits for a storm, or fly,
to challenge his dignity.
