The River of Pain

Each night across the country a silent river flows,
It's not a river of love but of tears and broken bones.
For somewhere in the night a battered child will cry,
and her tears form a river full of fear and full of fright
So afraid when you call their name
they turn their head to hide their shame
with eyes of fear afraid to trust,
hearts that's cold afraid to love
Their little minds confuse right and wrong,
Their hearts grow weak
as they try to stay strong.
Their little Bodies all bruised and scared
from Mommies and Daddies that do bodily harm.
Where will it Stop...
When will it end...
Let these children smile again.
