The Sea

The Sea

In the morning I am calm.
low-tide with waves rolling lazily over the sand.
yellow and orange hues rise above the horizon
bringing peace to all who witness the magic.

as the sun sets, the darkness creeps in.
tides rise and the water begins to churn.
each thought that swirls around my brain
adds to the storm
until a hurricane has formed.
fear, anger, pain

waves attack the shore and lightning strikes.
the currents are so strong that no amount of
strength would be able to save me.
it threatens to drag me out into the blue abyss.
I fight and fight
until I realize I am only fighting against myself.

I am the sea I drown in
