The Shadow That Lights the Way

Sometimes behind, sometimes in front, but it's almost always near

Only in darkness does it not appear

Dark forms casting over sidewalks, homes, and dreams

Staring and hoping for something, not as it seems

Features washed away as silhouettes emerge

A person's true colors shown as good and bad diverge

Trying to follow the light, but the darkness always keeps pace

Every decision a debate of which side to embrace

Morals ambiguous as the dark provides shade

Connection with your shadow is tempting to try and evade

Only with an open mind and understanding does it finally make sense

We cannot avoid, we must accept, as our shadow is our only defense
