The Shark

A pleasant day on the sand interrupted.
Cool waves lapping at my feet.
Corrupted by the unseen.
"Pay it no mind."

Musn't waste this precious day
on the shore.
Carry on but my enjoyment is tainted.
A gray fin rises from the surf.

I don't call for help
I remember their advice:
"Pay it no mind"
I'm standing my ground
with no one beside me.

Man versus Beast -- Brain versus Brawn.
I have no power over the wild,
but I don't need it.
I just need to wait for the tide.

I could have escaped,
if only I'd know.
No man can withstand
the beast alone.
