The Sidewalk

The sidewalk stares at me with his evil grin.
He knows he separates me and keeps me within.
These bars of steel and hate will never let you in.
Those who gaze upon me in my cage are deep in awe.
Their beliefs of beauty and perfection trap me in this great hall.
I gaze upon the people out my window, wishing them well.
Wishing they understood this deep, dark hell.
The sidewalk, he sees my dreams to leave and says farewell.
Only to laugh at me, knowing this will never be.
I stare at the sidewalk outside my walls and he simply smiles at me.
The sidewalk, he knows, my dreams and keeps them forever away from me.
