The Skin I Am In

The skin I am in
is the case to my soul

It gives form to my beauty
like good soup in a bowl

It lets me express what's in my heart;
a smile, a caress, a big hug when we part

It surrounds me with comfort
like a well worn shirt

Can you believe this covering
is made from pure dirt

I can clean it and scrub it
'til it glows and it shines

It's hard to believe
this great gift is all mine

As I explore this vast earth
to its far reaching depths

I look down at my hands
and say, "Yes, I accept."
