The Sorrow of the Forgotten

When friends are lost and you're left in sorrow
That is when you long for tomorrow
When hope is lost and all forgotten
That is when you must let love in
But when you feel as though love is lost
That is when you pay the cost
For when you're numb to those around
It is you who is seen as a clown
A painted face that's streaked with tears
Unable, to face your fears
You smile weakly, through the crowd
Until they leave you, in the ground
As you rot, forgotten and alone
It is the coffin that becomes your own
The wilted flowers and browning grass
You rest among your pears at last
Those who too become depressed
And had no feeling, or will to get dressed
Those who caved to their foe
In a boat, through their souls you row
Those who swim among the lost
Those who also paid the cost
And greeted death with an open hand
Because he was, their only friend
