The Spiral Staircase

By Laura

Every step an echoing thud,
Reverberating in the cold-hearted metal steps,
Reverberating in you,
Causing you to shiver,
Every breath hitches.

Falling, falling, falling,
Falling, falling, falling,
Into the the abyss,
Menacing hands push you down,
The gelid steps,
Each delivering you closer to your doom,
And farther from the escape.

You are alone,
Someone is there tearing you apart,
Turn around with uncertainty,
You stare back at yourself.
