the story

turn the page, the attempt in vain,
the words they remain.
cover to cover the story it reveals,
set deep inside. toss it, turn it,
shake it mightily.
the verses still stand strong.
put it on a shelf in a jest.
Will that do? pass by it you will,
tempting and pulling you.
you look to the heavens to find the strength deep in you,
yet, the story still remains in earthly light. cover it
with fondness, its power dwindles in time.
