The Teacher

Amidst the trials and tribulations of life
Amidst the pain, grief and strife
Amidst the petty wars and countless misgivings
Amidst the twisted whispers of wounded feelings
Does the teacher heal
Only a teacher can, only a teacher can
Can bring comfort to the lame
Can bring meaning to the mundane
Can nurture every wilting flower
And to the weak, infuse power
And to the parched souls, bring rain
And to the tortured, diffuse pain
Only a teacher can, only a teacher can
Elevate the spirit, evaporate the vain
Transpose the mind to a higher plain
Transcend the barriers of time and place
Transcend the barriers of religion and race
And grant the gift of learning...
