The Ticking of the Clock

The ticking of the clock broke the silence,
as she waited throughout the long night.
She stared at the lights out the window,
praying with all of her might.

The man that she loved lay there resting
from the long day of struggles he'd won.
She knew that the struggles were futile,
and tomorrow just might be the one.

She held his hand and told him she loved him,
He smiled up at her, with his eyes blue.
For the long battle that he had been fighting,
would be over soon, this, now she knew.

The ticking of the clock broke the silence,
For the fight was over this time.
So take my love with you, she murmured.
In my heart you will always be mine.
