The Tranquility of Night

I like the way the moonlight
off the water
so delicately
tonight the harbor
rests after a long day
the sun's rays pierced and
tore the sea’s fragile surface
for many long minutes
its rays as sharp as needles
but the moon
heals the water’s wounds
each night
with its gentle embrace
providing rest
and strength
then fading away
allowing the torture to resume
in the morning
