The Troubled Man

Jesus why can't I remember?
Where did this mask come from?
Can this really be me?
Who am I?

Eyes closed he lets the darkness caress his troubled thoughts
Jagged pieces of memories tumble through the man's consciousness
And still nothing makes sense
Jesus why can't I remember?

Faint whispers trace their way through his brain
The words drift within him like a hazy fog
Controlled by something else, the man opened his eyes
Where did this mask come from?

The reflection reveals a patchwork of pain
Pale bony hands show the truth is real
A single tear takes a slow journey down the man's face
Can this really be me?

Horror runs across his face
A choked scream fills the man's throat
Its agonizing sound cuts through the silence
His last thought worms its way through him as time stands still
Who am I?
