The Unknown

What would America be without the people of the United States?
Certainly not united to perform a more perfect union.
Who stood aside to let others die during the Civil War,
Whatever happened to the dead anyways?
Frederick Douglass spoke out against the hatred of his people,
But who listened to him?
Abraham Lincoln proclaimed emancipation,
But who suggested the idea?

The pages of a textbook filled only with victors,
But who won the victories?
The people's history is not meant for the Unknowns, just the hero.
But there is more to history than just the text,
You find in your textbook.
