THE VIRUS

By

the whole world seemed to be sleeping
until it wasn’t
the circle had been broken, severed
and a sadness descended
no one will forget
we are growing tired
trying to make peace
with no result
the world is now splintering
needing to mend itself
but unable to find a way out
you see it with your eyes
describe it with your senses
cringing at how jagged it has become
feeling the deepening solitude
and the pain of so many lost
deadened by hopeless resignation
knowing lives are about to end
with no loved one to comfort them
a tear falls for each life lost
and becomes an ocean
how do we live with it?
how do we not live with it?
