The Weight on Skin

When I first met you,
you stood there in your innocence
Your shyness,
your boyish habits drew me to you
Falling in love
with you was easy
Young love
First loves
High school sweethearts
First times
You stopped my world
Every path led me back to you
You were my home
You were brave enough to take my hand
And we created our own love story
When your eyes locked on mine,
I saw galaxies instead of pupils
When you touched me
My lungs floated into the air
like midnight smoke
When you smiled at me,
invisible hands kept me safe
But now
I’m ready to fly on beautiful wings.
