The Within

Pinch me
Am I human?
I ask
Before I realize
God is present
This stinging pinch
Of the skin
Reaching for a grip
On Spirituality
The gods never touch
The human body
So right there
I’m thinking
Not my God
He’s Mighty different
These sticks and stones
Build my mountain
Of courage
Take a pinch
Turn the sting
Feeling God’s existence
On the pores of the skin
