Their Sun

My brother, Adam, the son.
Adam, to my parents, the sun.
I am a blink in the night.
Adam, their one source of light.

Adam, the one that they choose
I beat him, but somehow still lose.
He is too bright to outshine,
Too far and too high to outclimb.

I think each star is a sun
Just not quite as near as this one.
Every small star that you see
Is bigger and brighter than he.

I see him cry one school day.
I ask, he has nothing to say.
My friend tugs my hand, I go.
He shines, but he’s shining alone.

My brother, Adam, the sun
In his system, a lonely one.
I am a star in the night.
Perhaps we can both share my light.
