They say why and others say why not

They say why and others say why not
It has happened again, another mass shooting
In a school, in a disco
They say why and others say why not

They should have seen it coming
Of course the tale tell signs were there
The kid raised himself up, the dad left
Mum struggled to keep the family together
My kids-of course not mine
Are allowed to invite him, let alone play with him
That boy, is real trouble

They say why and others say why not
Of course he was an outcast, a loser
At home and at school, we all knew
The teachers too
With nothing to lose
They say why and others say why not

A neighbour’s problem
Ought to be mine too?
Wake up neighbourhood
Let’s we stand
With the single mum, single dad
Nuclear family, patchwork family
Fighting couples, angry dads, overwhelmed parents
Incompetent mums, depressed parents
Let’s stich it up
For our kids-the future generation
