Things That Fall

Petals from flowers, neglected and cold
Teardrops from the eyes of the girl who has been abused and alone
Snowflakes in the bitter cold: beautiful and fragile
Raindrops on the gloomy night,
Matching her mood and the water spilling from her eyes
Stars: we use them as wish-granting factories, then they disappear
Tides that slash against the shoreline,
Then fade away into the ocean
Her eyelids, heavy from the long day of tears
Time: something we take for granted,
Something that slips away oh so easily
The shadows of the night,
Sneaking off into the distance and leaving her behind
Leaves in the fall--always beautiful, even at death
The sun: another day gone, just like that
And she fell for him, but he would never fall back
