Through the Valley

I walked through the Valley of the Shadow of Death
But never did I miss a breath
I delighted in each flickering patch of sun
Quickly swallowed as darkness won
I savored each rare plum
Not knowing when the next would come
The Lord was my only companion
Through the empty canyon
One day I walked into the light
I was blinded by the bright
The Lord had delivered me
To a place I had long longed to be
The fruit grew densely by the stream
It was every wanderer's dream
Days and weeks and years passed by
And I began to slowly cry
I did not like who I had become
This unappreciative lazy bum
No longer did I delight
In every patch of sunlight
For sunlight was everywhere
And the trees were never bare
So I did not truly appreciate
Every piece of fruit I ate
I looked to my side
To in the Lord confide
I could not find Him next to me
Where oh where could He be?
I had become so lost in happiness
That even the Voice of the Lord I had missed
