Sri Lanka - the island, beauteous,
'Pearl of the Indian Ocean,'
Shattered by a furious,
Thunderbolt - explosion.

Silencing prayers,
Wails erupted;
Flooded, blood and tears,
Over the holy ground.

What on earth was the reason?
Religion was the reason.
Instead of peace and unity,
Religion brought this calamity.

Along the road, blood sodden,
Some try to go to heaven,
Over the corpses of the dead,
To a heaven where God is dead.
