To a Candle

A wick unlit knows no flame
Such innocence lost is knowledge gained
But as the blackened candle dies
Doth the fire in our eyes?
No, I say for in the dark
We find what's true and true of heart
And truth, like wax will never fade
Even in our darkest days
Only drips and drops to be changed
Into the self we once became
Became it once, we become again
Reborn through torn and tattered winds
So to the candle, I do say
Burn with fervor under your flame
Stifle me not to keep me new
Scald and scorch that I may know truth
