To a Spring Warbler
After winter's long and painful cold, you appeared.
Your music brought spring's bright, joyous warmth.
It filled my soul with its passion
And healed my wounded heart with its love.

This Poems Story
The warbler appeared in early spring as winter was releasing its hold. A Southerner, I had spent the past months in New Jersey with my sister as she struggled with a terminal illness. She loved the feathered friends who nested, fed, and sang outside her kitchen window. She knew each bird and could whistle each individual song. The songs, including hers, had been silent throughout the winter. The poem expressed the joy of the warbler's visit. A retired teacher, I have lived in Texas and in Nashville, TN. At present, I reside in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado.
