To Be A River
To be a river
Is to be free
And still remain a part of the Earth
To grow wide and monstrous in the belly of a canyon
I'll carve my own path in a sea of rock
Free and unyielding
I will be unclaimable, untamable
Listen to the roar of my laughter
As I leap from the edges of the tallest cliffs
And live
I will make my home wherever I please
In the deepest of valleys and the tiniest of cracks
Stretch myself out across the globe
A gurgling creek in the forest, a hidden blessing
Beneath the ground
And when the time comes
I will collect myself from the trickling creeks
The winding brooks and well-loved estuaries
To leave behind all that I was, the freedom of my earthly form
And become a part of something greater
