To Be Without Blame

Irises can't
bloom in the cold
Helpless to seasons
beyond all control
Roots held in dirt
no muscles to strive for more
Incapable of life
Blue petals wilt in frost
in their own place of birth.

Flowers are not blamed
'That's just how they are'
I would look you in the eyes
to tell you 'I know'
