To Love Is Gain

The phone rang a few hours before dawn
A call at that hour hearing rain on the lawn
A woman spoke numb words with no shame
In an instant broken; unrest and blamed
Loss in life and love is gain
Are just words until it's claimed

To forgive was muttered years ago
But, what's a life if you live it alone?
Wished for you to be there and show
For the many first's, do's and don't's
It's not complex unless you live a lie
Simplicity is keen and so very kind

Once called you by name and honored it
Truthfully, the words I needed to say
Closer rather than farther was the dream
Time is meant spent instead short lived
Grief floods in like the ocean tide
And all I want to do is hide

Choosing to honor, cherish and love is me
I pray for the strength to call you, "Daddy"
Like I did when I was nine when all unknown was blind
Farewell to a life that was never your own
Peace be gifted to a place you can call home
