To Run

To run, to dash, to feel the wind behind my back
My shoes slam down upon the trodden grass
My sturdy calves make up for what I lack
Behind me now, they watch me as I pass

'Tis not just legs and feet and arms and core
It's mind and wit and perseverance, too
It's worth the feeling of being sore
It's feeling strong from head to heart to shoe

Adrenaline gives me the final push
Across the finish line, I let it out
The feeling of accomplishment will rush
The final stride can fill you up with doubt

But as you leap, you know you can't be beat
You feel the countless miles beneath your feet
