To You and You

I speak my heart because
I was bound by the mouth
in barbed wire
bloody and tattered
made to stay silent
by those who I figured would
never dare betray me
when I was still seven.
I speak my mind because
sometimes my heart has
so much to say but none
of the figures of speech to say it.
My mind knows all the right words,
my heart is a beast construed by
intertwining arteries.
I speak the truth because
I’d rather be slapped
tomato paste red in the face
by ever present realities
than raped viciously,
unknowing, by lies.
you may call my actions
whatever you want,
but I will always say what
I feel I need to.
That is who I am.
