Today Feels Like a Dream

Today feels like a dream
yesterday was real

It rained on me
and the water rose
almost over me
trudging through muddy waters
I came out alive

Today I live in my yesterday's of you
I can't let go
I was built here
long ago
amidst the fields my grandfather plowed
I am the rich roil
I grew in the peacefulness of you
In the wide open spaces
I was forced to leave you
but I will always remember my life here
the sweet smell of the corn fields
the rooster crowing in the early dawn
and my grandpa
on his blue tractor
entwined in the vines of long ago
I grew up surrounded by your love
my new beginning
will start with my painful ending
of losing you.
