Today's Introduction to Poetry

Where are the poets who designed
Each stanza with a secret,

Creating color slides and mouse traps -
Authors of dark rooms, bee hives, and
Never-ending lakes to ski across?

Remember the joy of uncovering a theme,
Even one buried deep in the ground?
Can you recall how poetry used to
Radiate reflections and mimic memories?
Every word and letter were chosen immaculately.
And now today's poets succumb to simply
Telling their readers the whole story or
Exactly how to solve their mystery.

Pray tell me, will you help me?
Or do you think I am a contradiction?
Even though you may conclude that I
Told you my story quite candidly and was
Remiss in building a labyrinth, I must confess -
You just didn't find the way out.
