One of those nights
Scattered across the wreckage of my life
Amongst the smoldering remains
Of bad decisions, regrets and mistakes

Sleep eludes me
Taunting me
Daring me to forget
Testing my will

A casualty of a war
Fought inside my head
Between thoughts and feelings
Between what if and why

My thoughts
Wandering aimlessly through the forest of my past
Searching, drifting, grasping
For answers

The pain envelopes me
The agony of loneliness, fear and uncertainty
Like the darkness of a moonless night
With only the stars of faith and hope to guide me

Finally, reality sets in
I accept my plight
I rest my head and pray this is the last
One of those nights...tonight
