Too Smart for Dumb Love

Books and pages

We read, we learn

our past mistakes

we won't let return

Another fight

another broken heart

we watch the pieces

of others fall apart

clutching the books

close to your chest

thoughts running

won't let you rest

Then it happens

like a railroad spike

driven into your thoughts

a four letter spike

There you stand

You're face to face

a blooming new thought

bleeding into that space

Between the text and your heart

you feel it taking hold

searching for answers

in the books you hold

Not a word written

No lecture or report

No instructions you find

help you support

This strange new thing

This four letter word

grab your books and pens

your shield and sword

Cut this blooming vine

and return to your lair

in these words you will find

a story to compare

some sort of lesson

maybe a word from above

a story in history will tell you

You're too smart for dumb L O V E
