Trying to Love Again

Mother, should I trust the next man I meet?
Will he end up just hitting me?
The women look to men to define themselves
This goes all wrong
When the relationship goes downhill
The woman’s soul goes with it
The woman’s love dies in heartbreak
He beats it to shreds
Knocking it down bruise by bruise
Tearing her apart with each push and hair pull
I’m sorry this happened to you
A woman in love
Found violence instead of a happy ending
But think about life with me for a minute
The fact of re-building
When you have nothing
Nothing left to give
But a broken soul and an empty-life
Well that’s perfect
Because that’s where God begins
Mother, should I trust the next man I meet?
Yes, but only if that man is Jesus
