Trying to Remember Why I Play

The people who I fear most
are the same kids who I don't want to let down,
who will put in 110% for,
and I spend every day with them.
Our team is intense, but it's worth it.

The situation I fear most
is dropping the ball on a fast break,
getting beat to a ground ball,
and letting them down.
But when I succeed, they make sure I know it.

The place I fear most
is the bus after a bad game,
standing next to Coach on the sidelines after being pulled out,
and the end line when we don't pay attention.
But the field is also where we thrive.

I play a sport that I fear.
The insane capabilities of the players around me
compared to myself is embarrassing.
The worries about recruitment
fill the uncommitted with hopeless feelings.
But I guess I'm a fear addict.
There must be something about the adrenaline.
