Two of Hearts

She closed her eyes
And breathed in deeply.
As if his scent were the pages
Of a new book and she,
Being an avid reader,
Wanted to steal every word
Off of every page-
All for herself.

As she reluctantly released
The air from her lungs,
Back-
Into the atmosphere.
She felt the warmth
Of his arms around her.

She caved into his chest
As a feeble house of cards
Might too cave,
Into itself.

And he, being feeble himself,
Could only wish
As a child might on a star,
To sustain the weight
Of two beaten hearts.
